An interesting footnote: in late 1397, rumours ran around the country that the head and torso of Arundel had miraculously reattached themselves and that he had risen from the grave. After Richard directed Lancaster, Northumberland and three other earls to ‘ghostbust’ one night to see the truth for themselves, Arundel’s corpse was exhumed and reburied under the pavement of an Augustinian friary.

Some thoughts on this. First, John of Gaunt and Henry Percy pere, Ghostbusters, is a brilliant idea for a serial that I would definitely watch. Second, the fact that that after uncovering ‘the truth’, Arundel’s corpse was exhumed and reburied underneath a friary where the monks could keep an eye on it KIND OF IMPLIES THE STORIES WERE REAL AND ARUNDEL HAD IN FACT RISEN FROM THE DEAD? Which is a serial I would definitely definitely watch.
Also, Richard did this because he was completely freaked out about the whole thing and reportedly had nightmares about Arundel coming to his bedroom at night (accusingly, not otherwise!) He had the body moved both as a power thing and because he didn’t want it to become a shrine for people who considered Arundel a martyr…
Amma, maybe you’re a mermaid really, taking human form for the love of a man—so every step is like walking on razor blades.
